Last snow video for a while…
After a week of driving rains in Beirut, equating to blizzards in the mountains, we hit the road last Saturday for what will probably be the last dose of snow this winter. You see the temperature in Beirut was 30 degrees celsius, and up in the mountains it was probably around 10 degrees (if you discount the substantial wind-chill).
So no wonder that the snow was melting at a rapid rate and the stuff on the ground was more like rice pudding than soft powder or hardpacked ice.

Back in business
Sherlex.com is back online after a few days’ absence while we migrated from one webhost to another. This was a bit of a nerve-wracking change as we’ve been with the same host for the past five years and I was unsure how well the migration would go. But everything seems to work fine and email is up and running again.
So now it’s time to uncross my fingers!

Seasonal variation
It seems to me that the Lebanese have a pretty set idea about the seasons. In their minds early March is still winter, which would normally be the case given that Mount Sannine still looms over Beirut all capped with snow and earlier in the week there were gusting frosty storms.
But today the reality was a bit different - it was 30 degrees celsius outside, with gorgeous sun and sparkling seas. And yet everywhere I looked, the locals were still dressed for winter. Coats were on, some wore hats. And I was sweating in my shirt sleeves. I guess nobody them that it’s okay to dress according to conditions, and not the calendar.
This truly is a strange - albeit great - country.
